Dear SLt Robin Latajka,

The crosses are down, the candles safely tucked away, and once again, the Field of Crosses is simply a park alongside Memorial Drive downtown Calgary.

However, for the Eleven Days of Remembrance, it brought thousands of Calgarians and others together to honour and remember our Fallen.  It brought thousands of school children together to learn about Canada’s proud history of answering the call to arms whenever called upon.  It brought people together to read carefully researched biographies so that instead of a field of crosses, people find a field of personal stories of bravery and sacrifice.

It was emotional seeing so many people walking amongst the crosses, at random times throughout the day and night, pausing to pay their respects to our fallen servicemen and women.

Stories were told.  Tears flowed.  Bugles and Pipes were played, and choirs sang all while uniformed personnel stood at attention and saluted.

None of this could have been possible without an army of passionate and dedicated volunteers and participants, and it could not have been possible without you.

We are forever grateful to you for your support.

Sincerely, Susan Schalin, Executive Director Field of Crosses

Gail Peake, Administrative Coordinator Field of Crosses
