This week's Spotlight Cadet is Chief Petty Officer This week's Spotlight Cadet is Chief Petty Officer Second Class (CPO2) Bustard K.(He/Him) he has been in the Cadet Program for 7 years, spending 1 year in Navy Leauge, 2 years as an Air Cadet and 4 years as a Sea Cadet at 335 Calgary. CPO2 Bustard has been a vital part of our core ever since he joined. For the past 2 years, he has been the Chief of Administration and one thing he is in charge of is keeping track of all the cadet's attendance. This allows our cadets to qualify for opportunities such as Cadet Summer Camps as well as CAP Activities throughout the summer. Chief Bustard loves to come to training nights because of the dynamic of our staff team as well as meeting new cadets, he loves to see new and older cadets achieve their goals. Goals that can be within cadets or outside of cadets, achieving what they want instead of what they need. (Yes, this was said by Chief Bustard himself) Chief Bustard is looking forward to seeing the new and older staff grow into even better leaders, as this program taught and improved the skills that help him in his life outside of cadets. He is really passionate about continuing his job at Telus Spark as an educator, where he is taking on more responsibility among his team. A goal he wishes to reach within cadets is becoming Coxn, as he has been thinking about this since he started his cadet journey in Navy leauge, he wishes to enjoy his time left as a cadet and make sure that it is memorable and he can always come back and cherish it. Thank you and congratulations to CPO2 Bustard for always bringing positive energy to our training nights and for being this week's Spotlight Cadet.

Happy belated Birthday to our traning offcer, SLt Happy belated Birthday to our traning offcer, SLt Latajka!! As a beacon of leadership, SLt Latajka helps cadets become exceptional leaders and fosters a culture of productivity. She is an excellent swimming, mastering the 400, 100 butterfly, backstroke, freestyle, and breaststroke for nationals and even competing this past Saturday in an event!

She recently took a trip to San Francisco for her birthday! She spent time exploring history at Alcatraz prison (which was also an old military base!) and delving into science wonders at the California Science Museum. From the electrifying vibes of the Queen concert to the iconic cable car rides, each experience was an awesome part of an awesome trip.

Next year she gets to spend more time doing exciting things with Taylor Swift tickets and the anticipation for Noah Kahaan!

Cadets have been practicing their march pasts. Cad Cadets have been practicing their march pasts. Cadets practice these parades so they can show off everything that they have been learning to individuals or groups. Calgary Cadets are spending time during these parades practicing their commands in French and in English to do a bilingual parade. During this past Thursday, Cadets successfully preformed two march pasts and did some divisional practice with the assistance of staff cadets.

Remember that the dress for this upcoming Thursday (30/11/23) is full C1s!!

Chief Boards is a process that all cadets need to Chief Boards is a process that all cadets need to take in order to become a Chief Petty Officer Second Class or First Class. There are a couple of aspects to the board, one being personal dress and deportment and the other being an interview.

Cadets are marked on their uniform and their history as a cadet is also taken into consideration (medals, awards, camps they have attended).

The interview board is composed of members representing the Corps, Branch, and Community. Cadets are asked technical questions about the structure of the corps and cadet program. In addition, to leadership questions and situational questions where the cadet is given a specific scenario and asked how they would handle it.

Cadets prep by looking through the provided Chief Board manual and ask questions to current chiefs on any tips they have. For interview prep, many cadets practice going through sample questions and ensuring that they know technical administrative details that may come up in the interview.

Cadets are asked to bring their resume that reflects their work and achievements outside of cadets.

One tip from Chief Ghosh is that when going into a chief board for the first time make sure to ask as many questions as possible to your chiefs. They have all gone through this process before and only want you to succeed and are always happy to help!
